The Best Ad Placements on a Blogspot or a WordPress Blog

The Best Ad Placements on a Blogspot or a WordPress Blog

The best ad placement is the one which drives you the maximum impressions and clicks. However, there’s no way you can find out your ideal ad placement overnight.

You need testing… and time…

Try conducting A/B tests among multiple ad placements (even ad sizes if you require) to find which layout best compliments your website.

Remember, you have also got to keep your users in mind. You would not want to stick to an ad placement which drives you relatively more impressions, but at the cost of hampering the user experience of your blog.

Here are some placement testings you can do:

  1. According to Google, ad sizes like 300x250, 728x90, and 300x600, amongst others attain better viewability than others. These ads are best placed when kept right above the fold.
  2. Owing to the placement fact stated by Google, typically, ads are placed at the right. But we are testing and we need to go all the way. Hence, try to place one of your placement variants on the left with the content.
  3. Another instance is, if you are experimenting with above-the-fold ads, make sure the intent of the page remains above-the-fold. Example, if a site offers a resource to download, ensure that the CTA is to be found above-the-fold. Poor ad placements can be tricky and prove hazardous to the ad revenue.
  4. In fact, since you are testing, it makes sense to test the entire layout to test multiple ad placements at the same time. This kind of testing is as good as a website overhaul. Hence, it’s recommended you perform this after careful thinking and when the time is right for you.

These were some quick and simple ad placement options. However, there are also things you need to keep some things in mind:

  • Don’t place too many ads thinking more ads mean more revenue
  • Think from a long term perspective, instead of believing short-term outcomes. For example, placing too many ads many show you a sudden hike in your revenue for some time. However, it will impact your user experience in the long run, which is likely to get your banned/paused by AdSense (or any ad network you use).
  • Don’t get into testing immediately. Peep into your historical data, analyze how your website has performed with former ad placements, and make your decisions accordingly. You never know, there are some things you might not want to touch at all.
  • Lastly, don’t be afraid or lazy with testing, and give it the time it needs to bring you results.

When testing with ad placements, many factors are taken account. Make sure you are aware of the before making any live changes to your site.

Another important thing to take note of is that Google also allows smart Ad Placements which save loads of your time and effort.
It is recommended for must users to turn it on and trust the process.
