How to Categorize Posts in Blogger Blogs

How to Categorize Posts in Blogger Blogs Main Image

Anyone who has a blog or a site that talks about multiple topics or maybe a single topic divided into several categories knows the headache of keeping it all organized. And if it is such a headache for the writer, publisher or manager of the blog, how can the viewers manage to keep organized everything that they want to see?
That is a question not many bloggers take up. Unless we always mention what we are talking about and which category it falls in, it also gets hard to find other relevant content for the same topic on that same blog. Then, people might feel confused and will probably bounce right onto the next blog or site that they can find.

That is why it is important to keep everything you write for your viewers organized. So that with only a few clicks of a button, they could easily find what they're looking for. And not only that, but this will also help us when we view our own blogs or from the Blogger Dashboard itself which I will tell you about at the end of the post. But to do all of this as a beginner, you may need help. And that is why I have prepared this short and easy tutorial for fellow BlogSpot bloggers and content writers. Today, I will show you how you can categorize all your posts into the appropriate labels so that people can easily jump right to the content category they want instead of neglecting your site all at once for the confusion.

Why do I Need to Label my Posts?

Labels given in blogger blogs, allow a person to skip right to the posts that are under that label. If you do not understand what I mean, then check my blog out or take a look at the following pictures and 2-step instructions I have written for you guys to understand.

1. As you can see on this blog's sidebar, the is a multi-tabbed box. The second tab named Labels contains the names of all the labels present on my site which helps my viewers sort out through all the things that they might find either useless or wasteful from the things they are actually looking for.

2. Go ahead and click on any label, say you click on the button labeled 'How to's'. This will lead you to a page with all the posts I wrote and labeled under 'How to's'. Which would make the viewer's work (In this case, yours) easier, since finding all the posts under this category is so much more convenient.

How Would I Know What to Categorize Under a Label?

You should keep each and every post of yours in a specific category so that if a person is interested in that topic/category, they can easily click on the label and see all of the posts under that label. If you want to add a label to a post, but don't know which one would go correctly with the post if you have multiple options, then don't worry. You can add multiple labels to a single post.
For example, If you have a broad topic blog, and some of your most popular or common labels are- Travel, Food, Health, Amazing, News, Tutorials, Natural and Ayurveda, Makeup and Beauty
And you write a post named How to Use Natural Things as Beauty Products, then the labels you might want to use are Natural and Ayurveda, Makeup, and Beauty, Tutorials.
Likewise, whatever type of blogger blog or site you have, you should always have different categories for your posts unless you write about the same thing only, which is quite rare.

Another Example? Say you have a blog about Makeup and Beauty Tips. You can label all of you different posts according to which category it actually falls in, like a post titled '50 different styles of eye makeup with tutorials' could be labeled under Eye Makeup while a post titled 'The Best Hair Styles using Hair Extensions' could be labeled under Hair Styles. Labels should be simple and understandable to everyone, if it is misleading, it might cost you a whole lot of traffic and views to your post.

How to Label Posts?

This task is quite easy. All you have to do is follow the given steps-

1. Open a written post or start writing one. Once you write a relevant post to your blog, decide which type of post it is or which category in your blog it falls under and which label would be used with it, something like the examples I showed you above. Once decided, look at the sidebar on the post editor screen under the Post Settings.

How to add a Label to a Post step 1

2. Click on Labels option under Post Settings and enter your desired label for your post in the text box or choose from the pre-existing labels if any.. Click Done.

Tip - Try to only keep a certain small number of labels on you blog so that your viewers do not feel overwhelmed by too many specifications.

How to add a Label to a Post step 2

Now you have successfully added a label(s) to your post. And now, if you go to your Blogger dashboard > Posts, you can also categorize all your published and draft posts by labels by clicking on the Dropbox of Labels and then by clicking on a label from the given options. Afterward, Blogger will sort through all your posts only to show the ones that fall under the same label you chose.

So, not only does adding labels make you work easy, it helps your viewers in doing what they do without any headaches too. I hope this basic Blogspot tutorial helped you. Keep checking back for more useful tips, tricks, and walkthroughs.
